Two Students will participate in the 2018 Corporate Internship Program

KANSAS CITY, MO (January 2018) Lead Bank, one of Kansas City’s leading locally owned financial institutions, recently welcomed two Cristo Rey High School students for the second semester of the 2017-2018 school year as part of the Cristo Rey Work Study Program (CWSP). During this internship, Dominique Huerta, freshman, and Laura Contreras, sophomore, will work one day a week and one Friday per month at the Crossroads location, acquainting themselves with banking operations and procedures.

The work-study program is considered an integral part of the educational program of Cristo Rey for students to gain working experience and engage in career exploration. Each student will receive practical insight as well as academic, instructional credit hours which comply with Missouri’s law for fully-accredited, college preparatory curriculum, as well as gaining first-hand experience in the field of their choice.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Cristo Rey students to the Lead Bank team and help them prepare for a future career in the banking industry. At Lead Bank we believe that proper training and real-world experience are key ingredients to their success,” said Josh Rowland," CEO of Lead Bank.

"I speak for everyone at Cristo Rey High School when I say we're really excited to partner with Lead Bank. They recognize the diverse pipeline of talent Cristo Rey has and acknowledges the impact a partnership like this has on our student’s professional life,” said Ted Koppen, Director of Corporate Work Study. "Taking it a step further, by utilizing students who are bilingual, Lead Bank will help bridge the gap between demographics alleviating a language barrier. This partnership will not only benefit the Bank but our students as well. They are the next generation of leaders in the greater Kansas City business community," Koppen added.

"We are committed to working with everyone in our community and with that, understand the need for skilled bilingual bankers. It's exciting to be able to offer these career opportunities to students who are eager to learn the banking industry and being able to set them up for success. Having the students work alongside a professional mentor and supervisor that will provide a unique learning experience will just enhance their capabilities," Josh added.

The students will complete various tasks such as teller transactions, answer phones, greet clients, utilize their Spanish translation abilities, and must be able to demonstrate basic problem-solving. The training aims to enhance their understanding of the various operations within the Bank and the nature of responsibilities in this market sector.
